Positive Displacement Blowers

Positive displacement compressors take advantage of positive displacement technology. Movement is created by trapping a fixed amount of oxygen or air and then forcing (or displacing) that trapped volume into the discharge pipe. Positive displacement technology can be further classified according to the mechanism used to move air.

  • Impeller: Two or three lobes
  • Controls
    • Constant or variable speed (usually belt-driven)
  • Simple instrumentation
  • Requires large silencers (for intake and discharge)
  • Smaller installations
  • Lower capital cost

Positive Displacement Blower Applications

  • Wastewater treatment
  • Water treatment
  • Methane gas recovery
  • Pneumatic conveying
